Dentistry in Czechia

How dentistry differs from General Medicine, which exams are required, and why competition is usually higher.

Where Dentistry is taught in Czechia

Dentistry in Czechia usually lasts five years and leads to the title MDDr. Competition is often higher than for General Medicine: there are fewer places, while the requirements in biology, chemistry, and physics remain demanding. At some faculties, the exam is shared with General Medicine, but rankings and passing scores are calculated separately.

Main faculties

  • Charles University: 1st Faculty of Medicine in Prague, Faculty of Medicine in Plzeň, Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové.
  • Masaryk University in Brno: Faculty of Medicine MU.
  • Palacký University Olomouc: Faculty of Medicine UP.
  • University of Ostrava: Faculty of Medicine OU.

What is important for admission

Dentistry requires the same subject foundation as General Medicine, but because there are fewer places, mistakes in strategy are more costly. If a student wants Dentistry specifically, we usually advise applying not only to Prague, but also considering Plzeň, Hradec Králové, Brno, Olomouc, and Ostrava as separate real options, not just a backup "just in case".
